Last week at a bloggers reception in Palo Alto, Calif., I finally had the chance to meet Gina Bianchini, CEO and co-founder of Ning, a startup that lets anyone create any kind of social network. Ning hosts it for you for free.
Ning has latched on to the long tail of this burgeoning phenomenon. Over the weekend, as Gina’s partner Marc Andreessen (of Netscape fame) reports, Ning created its 100,000th social network. (Here’s Mike Arrington at TechCrunch on Ning as well.)

Meantime, Jeremiah had this list of white-label social networking platforms (that you can rebrand as your own) at PodTech earlier this year, and TechCrunch had this list of 34 ways to build your own social network. Ning and KickApps appear to be two of the leaders in this space.
