Seeing so many companies offering online video hosting, Pleasanton’s Ourmedia, one of the market’s earliest players, recently decided to change course. Although it continues to let users store multimedia files there for free, it is narrowing in on showcasing grassroots media. “The need we saw a year ago for hosting is not as compelling,” said Ourmedia co-founder J.D. Lasica. “Now it’s really easy to get your video hosted for free.”
Guba CEO Thomas McInerney predicts that Internet and media giants will begin to acquire online video companies in the next six months. “There are a lot of giants dancing and the deck has been reshuffled,” he said. “I think it’s going to be interesting when they start making acquisitions and moving aggressively. I think (for now) a lot are taking a wait-and-see approach.” …
