MoveOn has announced the voting results of its wonderful grassroots political commercial project, “Bush in 30 Seconds.” Here are the top 15 finalists.
With over 2.9 million votes cast for more than 1,000 entries, MoveOn says, “They perfectly capture the grassroots approach to politics we’re pioneering together.”
If you’re in the New York area next Monday (Jan. 12), the Bush in 30 Seconds Live awards show will celebrate these ads and announce the winner. The show will be hosted by actress Janeane Garofalo and include performances and presentations by Margaret Cho, Moby, Chuck D, John Sayles, and others. Tickets are available here, with proceeds going toward MoveOn’s $10 million campaign to expose Bush’s policies in swing states.
Take a look, and see how your ranking compares to mine:
Wake Up America
Desktop
Bush’s Repair Shop
In My Country
What Are We Teaching Our Children?
Gone in 30 Seconds
Leave No Billionaire Behind
Bankrupt
Polygraph
Imagine
Child’s Play
Bring ‘Em On
Army of One
Human Cost of War
Hood Robbin’
I rated some of the more lighthearted pieces higher because I think they’re more effective with swing voters. I’d actually like to see the light touch of “Desktop” or “Bush’s Repair Shop” pared with a more emotionally resonant message, such as “In My Country” (but not something so didactic as “Army of One” or “Hood Robbin’ “). “Polygraph” would have worked if it had been expanded beyond Iraq to domestic issues as well.

Not too hot on the repair shop clip.
