Spoke this morning at Streaming Media West in San Jose on the panel "The Power of Personal Media" along with Scott Kabat, Director of Marketing, Pure Digital, Irina Slutsky, Founder, Producer, GETV, Schlomo Rabinowitz, Video Producer, Echoplex, and moderator Chris Brogan.
We covered a lot of ground, including the changes in online video in the past 3 years; whether shows (Webisodes) or channels will dominate in the Web video world; the difference between Hollywood-created Web shows and homegrown episodic shows like Epic Fu, Ask a Ninja, the UpTake and others; the powerful wave that Flip has made in the marketplace in the past year (it’s for the moments between important events like birthdays and graduation day, said Kabat); the rise of citizen media projects in countries like Colombia, India and Bangladesh, led by Rising Voices; early-days business models from sites like ReelChanges.org and Spot.us; and lots more.
Afterward, I finally caught up with Chris Brogan and we got a chance to compare notes on our current projects.
Then did a quick cruise through the Exhibit Hall. Among the interesting companies:
• Qumu: It’s a Studio in a Box that gives you the power to create broadcast-quality video.
• LiveU: broadcast live, anywhere, anytime. "LiveU frees video broadcasting from uplink limitations and allows the
color and excitement of live broadcasts to be shared by TV
Broadcasters, Web Portals and Video Prosumers."
• Netbriefings: focused on the enterprise, the company provides large, broadcast-style webcast services specifically suited for secure company meetings and outbound marketing events.
