One of the most glaring lapses in the world of online newspapers over the past decade has been the New York Times’ refusal to allow readers to contact the writer or editor of a story.
Well, the digital revolution moves on. Today public editor Byron Calame (above) revealed that clicking on a blue-linked byline will now enable any reader to send an email to a reporter.
An important step, if about 10 years tardy.
Calame ends with this:
Here’s a final tip for any readers who may be desperate to get an e-mail address for an individual editor. Some editors — and reporters — show up in a directory of staffers who voluntarily list their e-mail addresses. To get it, send an e-mail, completely blank except for the address, to [email protected]; the staff directory will be e-mailed to you.
